The Development of Basic Mathematical Skills in Recognizing Numbers and the Relationship Between Quantities and Numerals for the First-Year Kindergarten Students Using the Wordwall Game

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to 1) develop basic mathematical skills in recognizing numbers and the relationship between quantities and numbers for the First-Year Kindergarten Students using the Wordwall game, and 2) compare the basic mathematical skills in recognizing numbers and the relationship between quantities and numbers of Kindergarten Year 1 before and after the exposure to the Wordwall game. The target group consists of 15 the First-Year Kindergarten Students at Tipakorn Witthayapat School (Wat Sunthorn Satit) under royal patronage. The research tools include 1) a learning experience plan using games, and 2) an assessment form for basic mathematical skills. The statistics used for data analysis include percentage and relative growth score.


            The results revealed that 1) Kindergarten who developed basic mathematical skills using the Wordwall game demonstrated foundational mathematical skills, including number recognition and the relationship between quantities and numbers. Overall, they achieved an assessment score of 72.53%, which exceeds the established benchmark of 70%. 2) The average scores for basic mathematical skills of Kindergarten before and after the experience using the Wordwall game were 6.67 and 18.13, respectively. All preschool children showed an increase in scores after the experience, resulting in an overall relative growth score of 62.55, indicating a high level of growth.
