The Development of English Spelling skill Using AGO Phonics Sound Pad Application for Grade Three Students, Wat Chalermprakiat School

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to develop English spelling of Grade 3 students before and after learning with the AGO Phonics Sound Pad application, and 2) to study the satisfaction of Grade 3 students on using the AGO Phonics Sound Pad application. The sample consisted of Grade 3 students at Wat Chaloem Phrakiat School (Phibun Bamrung), semester 1, academic year 2024. Six students per class were randomly selected, totaling 18 students, using the stratified random sampling method. The research instruments included the experimental instruments, including 5 lesson plans, 2 periods per plan (1 hour per period) for 10 days, AGO Phonics Sound Pad application, word blending flashcards, song games, picture cards, 3 sets of reading practice worksheets combined with other skills, and letter and vowel blending exercises in a notebook. The instruments used for data collection included a pre- and post-test of 20 vocabulary words, consisting of 10 words in the lesson and 10 words outside the lesson, with an IOC of 0.67-1.0, and a rating scale questionnaire to survey students' satisfaction with using the AGO Phonics Sound Pad application with multimedia.


          The research results found that the English spelling skills of the third grade students after using the AGO Phonics Sound Pad application improved, with a score passing the 80 percent criterion. The mean scores before and after learning were 8.77 and 14.5, respectively, and the standard deviations of the pre-learning and post-learning scores were 2.71 and 2.81, respectively. There were 18 students who had higher post-learning scores than the pre-learning scores, accounting for 100 percent of the sample group. The overall satisfaction of the students with the AGO Phonics Sound Pad application was at a high level, with an average of 2.68.
