Sustainable Community Self-Reliance Guidelines for Crime Prevention: A Case Study of Lam Salid Thong Phatthana Community, Nong Chok District, Bangkok

Abstract
This study aims 1) to investigate the current status of crime within the Lam Salid Thong Pattana community in Krathum Rai, Nong Chok, Bangkok. 2)Furthermore, it explores the mechanisms and 3) strategies instrumental in fostering a self-reliant community for sustainable crime prevention and proposes guidelines for enhancing community collaboration to ensure long-term safety and resilience. Adopting a qualitative research methodology, this study utilizes descriptive analysis. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and field observations, supplemented by a comprehensive documentary study. A total of 70 key informants were selected using purposive sampling. The research findings are as follows: 1) The Lam Salid Thong Pattana community has been able to establish unified approaches and methods for crime prevention. This is reflected in the community’s strong cohesion and active participation in decision-making regarding policies and community activities, under the leadership of visionary and democratic community leaders. 2) The community has developed mechanisms and strategies for sustainable self-reliant crime prevention. These include collaborative community-based initiatives implemented within the area, such as the To Be Number One Project, youth councils, village funds, mediation centers, waste banks, drug rehabilitation centers, and child development centers. 3) The community demonstrates strength and resilience, with the capacity to achieve sustainable self-reliant crime prevention while adhering to principles of good governance. Key contributing factors include effective communication, active participation from the public, private, and community sectors, and a commitment to good governance principles in collaborative efforts.
